After 25 years in the forest products industry as a Plant Manager of a furniture company, John Pietroski was ready to start up his own wood products business.
After months of research for the right product, The Black Bear Screen Door Company was founded in 2006. John was looking for a product that required craftsmanship,
attention to detail, creativity, customer input, and use of his extensive background in the forest products industry. Crafting quality wooden screen doors was the perfect fit.
John’s research brought him in contact
with Kermit Greenleaf, the founder of Western Maine Screen Doors Company, which
was located in North Jay, Maine. Without a doubt, John quickly realized that
Kermit built the highest quality screen door in the Northeast. Kermit is a true
craftsman, who paid strict attention even to the smallest details. Kermit
helped John start up the Black Bear Screen Door Company in South Paris, Maine.
Kermit has since retired from the Western Maine Screen Door Company and is
enjoying his spare time going to car shows around New England.
Born and raised in the great state of Maine, John started his forest products career at the University of Maine. He earned a BS in Forestry in 1981, an Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering and an MS in Wood Technology in 1989.
His wood product experience includes Quality Control Supervisor for Louisiana-Pacific, Production Manager for the Decoy Shop, Production Manager for Saunders Brothers, and 18 years as Plant Manager for National Wood Products of Maine.
The Black Bear Screen Door Company is a family run operation, located in the beautiful Western Mountains of Maine. John’s wife, Mary, of 25 years oversees the marketing and sales, and his daughters,
Jenny and Molly, both work in the shop as well as with customer service. Abby and Cindy (shop dawgs) provide company and unconditional moral support!
